In February 2007 Professor Wagner took charge of the department of paediatric and adolescent medicine at the University Hospital Aachen. He previously worked at the University Hospital Bonn, the Institute for Genetics at the University of Cologne and as Scholarship holder at the Harvard Medical School in Boston. Lastly he was in charge of the Westphalian Children's Centre in Dortmund. His medical expertise lies in the fields of gastrointestinal disorders and rheumatism in children.

Annually approx. 4,500 children benefit from the medical care in this department which has its own intensive care unit and an interdisciplinary ward for children who have undergone surgery. Furthermore the department offers the opportunity for a parent to be accommodated as a chaperone. Medically there is always a certified specialist in the team even in the case of rare diseases.
