January 1998 he started as an Clinical Assistant Professor at the Department of Prosthodontics, Propaedeutics and Dental Materials, Christian-Albrechts University at Kiel, Germany. In the same year he finished his Honours Thesis (Title Awarded: Doctor of Dental Medicine): "Investigation of temperature changes in the dentine during high speed preparation with different turbines".

In April 2000 he became assistant medical director. Mai 2001 certified Specialist in Prosthodontics (approved by the German Society for Prosthodontics and Dental Materials Science). In Mai.2006 he finished his PhD Thesis "Evidence based assessment of dental appearance to improve oral health related quality of life" and the curriculum for dental Implantology (approved by DGI, Deutsche Gesellschaft für Implantologie).

Since October 2008 Univ.-Prof. Dr. Stefan Wolfart is director and chair of the Department of Prosthodontics and Dental Materials, Medical Faculty, RWTH Aachen University, Germany. His clinical and scientific main focus is implantology, esthetic dentistry and the clinical outcome of all ceramic systems and the correlation of these topics to the quality of life of the patients.
