Structure of Cortical Functional Units

The working group investigates structural and functional aspects of synaptic transmission and plasticity at the level of neural networks, synapses and neurotransmitter receptors. The team uses three-dimensional models to show, quantify and compare the subcellular structure of individual synapses. These models, along with density maps of different neurotransmitter receptors, should help to shed light on how various central synapses function in normal and pathologically altered brains. The group collaborates with other working groups at Forschungszentrum Jülich within the JARA-BRAIN research alliance.

Prof. Lübke also works at the Institute of Institute of Neuroscience and Medicine, Molecular organization of the brain (INM-2) at Forschungszentrum Jülich, where he heads the Structure of synapses working group.
