Scientist (m/f/d) in Applied AI in Digital Pathology
Working hours: Full-time (38.5 hours/week)
Duration/Term of employment: 1 year with option of prolongation until the completion of the doctoral degree

Our research group pioneers innovative methods in digital pathology, advanced image analysis, and deep learning. We focus on several key areas, including advanced image segmentation, next-generation morphometry, pathomics data analysis, sustainable AI (green and energy-efficient solutions), as well as secure and explainable AI. Our ultimate aim is to advance patients’ pathology diagnostics

- Optimization of models and analyses for sustainability and safety
- Expanding our knowledge of pathology through applications of explainability and interpretability

Your profile
- Graduate degree (Master's degree, PhD or equivalent) in computer science, engineering, statistics, bioinformatics, physics, or mathematics and relevant experience in the research and development of artificial intelligence and machine learning based solutions.
- Programming experience in Python or other programming languages and standard machine learning toolkits, especially deep learning (e.g., Pytorch, etc.).
- Desirable
- Ability to understand and apply AI/ML techniques from publications or in-house developments.
- Experience in identifying and creating ML techniques, developing model architectures and training algorithms, analyzing and tuning results, scaling frameworks, and validating hypotheses.
- Deep understanding of AI/ML techniques, linear algebra, calculus, and statistics, combined with hands-on experimentation, analysis, and visualization skills.
- Experience in practical aspects of AI/ML foundations and model design, such as improving model efficiency, quantisation, conditional computation, reducing bias, or achieving explainability in complex models.
- Experience with statistical analysis
- Experience with high-performance computing
- Ability to work both in a team and independently
- Good knowledge of the English language (Level C1 or higher)
- Strong motivation
