Univ.-Prof. Dr. med. Angelika Lampert appointed Co-Chair of the “Global Year on Neuropathic Pain”

The International Association for the Study of Pain (IASP) has appointed Univ.-Prof. Dr. med. Angelika Lampert, Director of the Institute of Neurophysiology at Uniklinik RWTH Aachen, as Co-Chair of the "Global Year on Neuropathic Pain.” With this appointment, Professor Lampert takes on a leading role in the campaign, which will focus on neuropathic pain in 2026. She will share this role with Professor Neil O’Connell, Professor of Evidence-based Healthcare at the Department of Health Sciences at the College of Health, Medicine and Life Sciences, Brunel University London.

Neuropathic pain is caused by damage or dysfunction in the nervous system, for example after injuries, surgeries or strokes. Those affected often suffer from burning pain that can become chronic and impair their quality of life. With the “Global Year on Neuropathic Pain,” the IASP aims to raise awareness of neuropathic pain and promote research and therapeutic approaches. “The appointment is a great recognition and highlights the importance of research on neuropathic pain,” says Prof. Angelika Lampert.
