Inflammatory diseases and degenerative processes can lead to a loss of alveolar bone mass and periodontal/peri-implant degeneration, potentially resulting in wound healing defects, tooth destabilization, loss of orthodontic treatment capability, and ultimately the loss of teeth or implants.

Often, changes in the oral and periodontal regions can indicate a serious systemic disease. However, the molecular mechanisms underlying this sequence of events are not yet sufficiently researched, meaning that currently no targeted therapies are available to effectively prevent and treat periodontal diseases and tooth destabilization.

We focus on understanding the molecular signaling pathways of periodontal ligament cells (PDL) and cementoblasts under mechanical stress, as well as the mechanisms and regulation of periodontal remodeling during orthodontic tooth movement.
