Description

Vascular calcification and osteoporosis are both comorbidities of chronic kidney disease. Vascular calcification involves the pathological deposition of calcium in the blood vessel, leading to increased cardiovascular risk. Bone mineralization is a physiological process critical for maintaining bone strength and health. Both these processes are interconnected via mediators impactin calcification. Understanding this relationship is crucial for the ffective management and prevention of cardiovascular complications and osteoporosis.

Your tasks:

  • Cultivation of osteoblasts and osteoclasts in vitro
  • Characterizing the impact of the mediators of vascular calcification via calcification quantification, RT-PCR, Western Blot, Imaging, etc.
  • Studying molecular mechanisms of the identified mediators via kinase assay, flow cytometry and possibly sequencing

What we are looking for:

We are looking for a reliable, motivated and enthusiastic master student with a strong academic background in biomedical sciences, molecular biology, or a related field. You should have experience in the lab and cell culture and be fluent in English.

The group specializes in identification and characterization of mediators of organ crosstalk. We offer training in application-orientated research with high clinical relevancy and sophisticated molecular & cellular biology and chemistry techniques, as well as a friendly working environment. Getting a job as a student assistant on a mini-job basis is possible parallel to the Master's thesis.
