Interprofessional Summer School in Emergency Medicine (ISN)

Dear enthusiasts of emergency medicine,

We are delighted to invite you to the fourth Interprofessional Summer School in Emergency Medicine (ISN), taking place on June 19 and 20, 2025!

Are you a trainee or student in emergency medicine, emergency nursing, or policing? Then you can look forward to two exciting days filled with lots of hands-on workshops, as well as preparatory content available through our e-learning platform.

Especially during the practical sessions, you won’t be on your own—you will work in small interprofessional teams, just like in real-life situations.

This year’s ISN theme is “Code Red – Emergency Medicine in Exceptional Situations.” You will train essential skills such as bleeding control and airway management. In engaging case scenarios, you will practice the structured management of critically ill patients under time pressure. In addition, you will encounter special operational situations and collaborate with police and fire services.

Another key focus is decision-making in uncertain situations, teamwork, and handling atypical presentations, limited resources, and cognitive biases—we prepare you for the missions that are anything but routine.

Since you all come from different parts of Aachen, we would also like to invite you to a relaxed evening barbecue at Fire and Rescue Station 3 after the first day of the course. It’s the perfect opportunity to connect in an informal setting and reflect on the day together. Participation in this get-together is, of course, optional.

A total of 60 participants will be admitted. Applications from the Aachen region will be given priority. If the number of applications exceeds the available spots, participation will be determined by lottery. You can register here. The application deadline is March 31, 2026.
