At the end of April, we had some very special visitors at our institute at Uniklinik RWTH Aachen! We had the pleasure of welcoming a school class from Vincerola International School Aachen to our Institute for Cell and Tumour Biology at the Uniklinik RWTH Aachen.
As part of their unit on "Careers", we were able to show the children just how diverse a university hospital can be. Alongside the many exciting career paths here at UKA, we gave them a glimpse into our work as physicians and scientists in the laboratory.
And of course, it wasn't just about watching: together we made cells "sad" and "happy", explored where cells actually "live" – and, very importantly, provided medical care to stuffed animals. It was a wonderful experience for everyone involved, full of curious questions, exciting discoveries, and plenty of fun moments. These kinds of early insights are so valuable – they spark enthusiasm for science, medicine, and technology, and show just how exciting STEM careers can be. Outreach can never start too early.
