Euregional Endoscopy Workshop Featuring Innovative Techniques in March 2027 in Aachen

On March 12 and 13, 2027, the Euregional Third Space Workshop will take place at the Uniklinik RWTH Aachen. This international course is designed for both experienced physicians with prior knowledge of advanced interventional endoscopy and those who already perform modern third-space procedures such as endoscopic submucosal dissection (ESD) and peroral endoscopic myotomy (POEM). These procedures allow early-stage cancers or muscle motility disorders to be treated endoscopically “from the inside,” without the need for surgery “from the outside.”

The two-day program combines theoretical fundamentals with intensive hands-on training. Presentations by experts from Germany, Belgium, and the Netherlands will cover topics including navigation within the submucosa, electrosurgical techniques, strategies for controlling bleeding and managing complications, and typical challenges encountered during ESD and POEM procedures. The program is supplemented by case discussions and video sessions on complex situations encountered in clinical practice. Located at the tri-border region, the international exchange is also intended to highlight the diverse perspectives of participants from different countries on these innovative endoscopic techniques.

A key focus of the course is the extensive hands-on training in small groups. Participants can practice various techniques using ex vivo models. Through partnerships with five leading medical technology companies, participants have the opportunity to work with a wide variety of instruments and endoscopes from different manufacturers. The combination of resection techniques and POEM is another unique feature of this course.

The theoretical and practical content is taught by renowned international experts (Prof. Arjun Koch (Rotterdam, Netherlands), Prof. Philippe Leclerq (Liège, Belgium), and Prof. Franz Ludwig Dumoulin (Bonn, Germany)) as well as local specialists. The interdisciplinary endoscopy team from the Department of Gastroenterology, Metabolic Diseases, and Internal Intensive Care Medicine (Medical Clinic III) and the Department of General, Visceral, Pediatric, and Transplant Surgery, led by Prof. Karim Hamesch, looks forward to a successful course.
