German Research Foundation funds project on the ASIC1a proteome

In the next three years, the German Research Foundation funds with almost 400.000 Euro a project to characterize the proteome of the ASIC1a ion channel. The proteome comprises the entire set of proteins that are tightly associated with the ion channel. For this project, we will use a multitude of molecular, biochemical, cell biological, and electrophysiological methods, including fluorescence confocal microscopy, patch-clamp recordings, recordings of acute brain slices, viral transfection, subcellular fractionation, siRNAs, and analysis of knockout mice. Together, the application will reveal the influence of the proteome on trafficking, subcellular localization, and electrophysiological properties of ASIC1a, as well as on neuronal excitability.
