Renal Molecular Pathologist Network (REMAP) is the first official European Renal Molecular Pathology training course realized by the cooperation of 6 different European Universities and a company specialized in e-learning and content management. It is funded by the Erasmus+ Programme of the European Union.

REMAP aims at training new professionals who will be able to provide renal biopsy services, molecular diagnostics as well as outstanding nephropathologic support: the renal molecular pathologist. “We are delighted to have been successful in Erasmus+ and we are getting to the heart of the project activities”, said the project coordinator Prof. Loreto Gesualdo.“ The students from all Europe will benefit from the project since the lessons will be released in open educational resources at the end of the project.”

REMAP involves six academic partners namely Università degli Studi di Bari Aldo Moro (IT),University of Cyprus (CY), Uniklinik RWTH Aachen (D), Academic Medical Centre of University of Amsterdam (NL), Charles University in Prague (CZ) and the Instituto de Investigacion Sanitaria de la Fundacion Jimenez Diaz (ES) with specialized expertise in nephrology, telepathology or molecular diagnosis, that will be supported by an ICT company (GRIFO Multimedia -IT) specialized in e-learning to develop an innovative multidisciplinary training course.

In the next three years, REMAP project will train twelve young European students from six different countries who will interact to each other, benefiting of this highly specialized course. The students will have the chance to put in practice their knowledge in the best clinical centres in Europe in order to gain also dynamic and interdisciplinary work experience. The result of the project will see the students returning with new skills and highly professional qualifications.

The local coordinators are Univ.-Prof. Dr. med. Jürgen Floege from the Medical Clinic II (Nephrology) and Ass.-Prof. Dr. med. Peter Boor, Ph.D. from the Institute of Pathology.
