It is our great pleasure and honor to welcome you to the 18th Congress of the International Society for Experimental Microsurgery (ISEM2027), held in the historic cross-border region of Vaals and Aachen – a place where three nations meet and where scientific excellence has a long-standing tradition.

Founded in 1992 by Professor Sun Lee, whose pioneering work in microsurgical techniques laid the foundations for modern organ transplantation, ISEM has developed into a truly interdisciplinary platform. Today, it brings together experts from basic and translational research as well as clinical practice across a wide range of specialties, including transplant surgery, gastroenterology, plastic surgery, neurosurgery, otorhinolaryngology, and veterinary medicine.

With ISEM2027, we are proud to continue this distinguished legacy, building on the success of the previous congress in Japan and hosting the meeting for the first time in the Euregio Maas-Rhein. This region stands for international collaboration and academic openness and is home to one of Europe’s leading university medical centers, RWTH Aachen University Hospital.

Under the theme “Precision and Partnership: Microsurgery at the Frontier of Science and Technology”, the congress focuses on the rapidly evolving landscape of microsurgery. Advances in robotic-assisted procedures, AI-supported intraoperative decision-making, cutting-edge imaging, and supramicrosurgical techniques are continuously expanding the boundaries of what is possible. The congress will provide a platform to present new findings, encourage dialogue, and foster collaborations across disciplines and borders.
