Cooperation with University of Kyoto, Japan

In our colaborative project, we aim to investigate the qualitative and quantitative difference of fibrosis and inflammatory cell infiltration in various human kidney disease.

Background and research contents

The number of patients with end stage renal disease (ESRD) is increasing worldwide. Chronic kidney disease (CKD) is a progressive disease, which results in ESRD and cardiovascular morbidity and mortality. Irrespective of the etiology, the pathology of CKD is characterized by renal fibrosis and inflammatory cell infiltration. However, the mechanism and heterogeneity of these conditions remains elusive, and their variations depending on the gender, age, and etiology have not been determined yet.

In this study, we aim to investigate the differences in fibrosis and inflammatory cell infiltration in various human kidney diseases in collaboration project with Kyoto University, Department of Nephrology, Japan (Prof. Motoko Yanagita; http://www.med.kyoto-u.ac.jp/en/organization-staff/research/doctoral_course/r-038/).

In this project we also analyze surgically resected human kidney samples from our institute.
