In this study, Kaiyi Zhang investigates for the first time the importance of four critical type III secretion system translocated virulence factors encoded by the Salmonella pathogenicity island (SPI)1 for their contribution to epithelial invasion and intraepithelial proliferation in a new preclinical model.
