Research interns (f/m/d) in environmental, occupational and engineering psychology

The time frame of the internship is flexible. Remote work is possible. An expense allowance is possible by prior agreement. The internship will be supervised by Dr. Rania Christoforou (clinical psychology Ph.D.) and PAN, Jian (psychology M.Sc.).

The teaching and research area Healthy Living Spaces Lab (headed by Prof. Dr. Marcel Schweiker) aims at the development of innovative approaches to the design of living spaces and buildings, to the analysis of sources of disturbance and to the development and establishment of preventive measures. The working group sees itself as an inter- and transdisciplinary link between medical research and relevant research activities from engineering, natural and social sciences.

Your tasks

You will mainly assist in projects regarding multi-domain (thermal, visual, olfactory, and acoustic) indoor perceptions. (For a brief insight, see https://doi.org/10.1016/j.buildenv.2022.109719 and https://doi.org/10.1016/j.buildenv.2020.106804)

Your tasks will depend on your ability and preference. They may involve:

  • supporting a systematic literature review with a focus on the methodological aspects of the studies
  • supporting the development of a study design
  • supporting the data analysis
  • experiments in the Aachen Workplace Simulation Lab

In addition, you will also support our multidisciplinary team on other cutting-edge research projects in building science with your psychological knowledge and perspectives.

Your profile

You are a student in psychology with

  • at least 120 ECTS completed from the bachelor study
  • good grades, especially in the courses for methodology and statistics
  • solid knowledge in basic empirical research methods and data analysis
  • English C1 or above
  • readiness for interdisciplinary research

The following optional criteria are preferable:

  • experience with systematic reviews
  • programming skills
  • living in Aachen
  • interests in an academic career
