PhD student (f/m/d) in biomedical kidney disease research

The part-time position 65% (25,025 hours/week.) starts as soon as possible and is initially expected to be limited to 1 year with the possibility of prolongation for 3-4 years until the completion of the doctoral degree

The Project: How kidneys regenerate and transit to progressive diseases 

  • We are investigating the mechanisms of kidney regeneration in disease, and failed regeneration transitioning into a progressive chronic disease, with particular focus on the role of the PDGF (platelet-derived growth factor).
  • Our group develops and utilises numerous animal models and state-of-the-art techniques, e.g., non-invasive in vivo imaging, functional cell culture experiments, molecular biology, histology including multiplex analysis, advanced microscopy and digital pathology with innovative AI-based evaluation (pathomics), and we complement this with patient samples.

  • A young innovative team comprising biologists, medical professionals (nephrologists and pathologists), and computer and data scientists/AI researchers in a highly interdisciplinary research group.

What you should bring:

  • Completed master/diploma degree in biology, biochemistry, biotechnology, or medicine with an excellent academic record.
  • Strong teamwork skills and a keen interest in biomedical translational research.
  • Enthusiasm for establishing new experimental models and methods, along with above-average commitment and motivation to conceptually develop and independently advance your own research project experimentally.
  • Basic knowledge in the field of animal experimental techniques (mouse and/or rat), as well as cell biology, molecular biology, or microscopy techniques, would be helpful.
