Uniklinik RWTH Aachen and Fujifilm jointly organise European cholangioscopy course

In cooperation with Fujifilm, the Interdisciplinary Endoscopy Unit at Uniklinik RWTH Aachen is organising an international training course on cholangioscopy. The workshop will take place on 8 and 9 October 2026 in Ratingen and Aachen and is aimed at doctors who are experienced in endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP) and wish to learn the innovative technique of cholangioscopy.

The course, led by Prof. Dr Karim Hamesch, Managing Senior Physician at the Department of Gastroenterology, Metabolic Diseases and Internal Intensive Care Medicine (Medical Clinic III), and his colleague Dr Sajjad Mahmood from the University of Manchester, aims to equip participants with the essential skills and knowledge required for cholangioscopy procedures. Through practical exercises, interactive case discussions and the live observation of patient cases, the programme aims to deepen participants’ understanding of the applications of cholangioscopy, improve their technical proficiency and promote effective clinical decision-making.

First Fujifilm Headquarters, then Uniklinik RWTH Aachen

On the first day, participants will receive an introduction to the specific techniques of cholangioscopy at Fujifilm’s headquarters in Ratingen. This will be followed by practical, hands-on workshops using various training models, covering precise navigation, targeted sampling, electrohydraulic lithotripsy (EHL) and the management of complications. On the following day, the attending doctors will have the opportunity, at the interdisciplinary endoscopy unit of Uniklinik RWTH Aachen, to observe live bile duct procedures and actively participate in the clinical discussion of the cases.

The European cholangioscopy course equips participants with the ability to understand the appropriate indications for cholangioscopy, including potential complications, and is therefore ideally suited to endoscopists with sound ERCP knowledge who are motivated to integrate these specific skills into their clinical practice.
