Patient data for medical research

Dear patient, Dear patient,

During your medical treatment or examination at Uniklinik RWTH Aachen, large amounts of data are regularly generated that could potentially be of great value for future medical studies. As part of the Medical Informatics Initiative (MII) funded by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) with 400 million euros, Uniklinik RWTH Aachen, in cooperation with other locations, has set itself the goal of collecting and processing as much of this patient data as possible and making it available for suitable scientific and medical studies. The corresponding patient data is stored, pre-processed and pseudonymized in a database at the Data Integration Center of the Uniklinik RWTH Aachen, so that no conclusions can be drawn about the identity of a patient.

How you can take part

Our trained staff will be happy to inform you about how you can consent to the use of your data and withdraw your consent at any time without giving reasons. In addition to the declaration of consent, you will also receive patient information. Of course, you also have the opportunity to ask questions.

Irrespective of participation in the initiative, future improvements in care through medical informatics will of course benefit all patients.

Further information

The Medical Informatics Initiative (MII) has its own website that provides clear and comprehensible information on the use of health data for medical research purposes. Among other things, it contains videos and a FAQ catalog on the topics of data protection and security.
